What's this blog all about?

"Board games? You play board games?" I hear you say... yes, but not unlike any board games you've probably ever heard of. Monopoly? Cluedo? Guess Who? Battleships? No, not by a long shot. One day someone introduced me to a great little game called "Carcassonne" - named after a French medieval town of rambling streets, walls and sections - where the aim is to score the most points using little random squares of road, walls and cities.
I was hooked and so began my, then our - the Bradshaw Tribe, adventure into Euro- and Ameritrash- gaming...

A weekend away and then a quick game of PictureKa!

So we had a weekend away to the in-laws for a few days for the Easter break, so no gaming, but upon our return, we cracked open the new game of PictureKa to have a quick go. We found it to be a great little filler - light hearted, 20 mins of fun. Think of Where's Wally? and you're on the right tracks. Basically you roll a dice and that tells you one of three types of cards to picture up, blue, red or green. Green cards give you a list of things to find; you choose one, roll another dice and that tells you how many of those to find. Eg stars, plugs, animals. You choose animals, roll the die and get 3 - so you have to find three animals in 30 seconds (using a sand timer). A red card is a bidding round where you choose one from a list and bid how many you can find of that item (animals, monsters etc), the highest goes and gets the point if they find that many - if not, they loose a point. Finally blue has a single picture that everyone has to find; first to find gets the point.

It's a great little filler game, lasting about 20 to 40 mins. Good for all ages, although Maya needed a little help in reading the list of things to find. One slight against the game, some of the images are ambiguous - for example, "Find 6 clouds" found Kavita pointing out clouds and steam - did steam count? We found ourselves having to agree or disagree on the spot if we agreed with the find. It can be a bit of slight at times, but still its all good fun.
